Vasudev was born in Thrissur, Kerala and brought up in Chennai. Debuting on stage as a timid 8 years old, he has since been an active performer on stage and various audio visual media. He moved to Edinburgh UK in 2002 to pursue higher education and while there, formally trained as an actor with The Edinburgh Acting School and Queen Margaret University under the tutelage of Anna Tinline and Justin Skelton. He went on to train in Shakespeare and Classical Drama (Acting) at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow in 2004 studying under Alasdair Hawthorne, Bill Wright, Cora Bisset, Sir Patrick Stewart and Kevin Spacey. He undertook a month long course with the New York Film Academy, London in Acting for Camera.
In 2007, after finishing drama school, Vasudev founded the Holy Cow Performing Arts Group in Edinburgh, with whom he wrote, directed and performed as an artist, putting up shows for 7 consecutive years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Upon occasional travels to India and after returning permanently in 2013, Vasudev performed as an artist primarily with Theatre Nisha in Chennai under Venkataraman Balakrishnan and with Just Us Repertory and the Madras Players. He performed and directed plays at the Short+Sweet theatre festivals in Chennai, which garnered critical reviews and was awarded Best Actor for the week in the 2014 edition of the festival.
Vasudev also studied filmmaking for a year at the L.V.Prasad Film and TV Academy under Hariharan Krishnan, Narayan Iyer and Ranjith Shankaran. Since 2013, Vasudev has performed in numerous Short Films such as “Pava”, “Samyuktham” and “Dwaraka”, each going on to critical acclaim at national and international film festivals. His first feature film was “Puliyamaram”, directed by Suresh George where he played the principal antagonist. He also performs as a voice over artist for documentaries, dubbed foreign language films and animation works.
Vasudev teaches Acting for stage and screen via workshops organised both privately and under the Holy Cow Performing Arts Group. His training combines Asian, classical British and Modern American techniques of performance, with special reference to script and scene analysis, character development and voice work.
